Le Cordon Bleu Refurbishment | Wellington

Christopher Kelly Architecture Workshop’s refurbishment of Wellington’s Le Cordon Bleu culinary school demonstrates the practice’s expertise in delivering complex projects within existing buildings. The upgrade introduced new teaching kitchens, a training restaurant, and flexible event spaces while keeping the campus fully operational throughout construction. The build with Field and Hall was a form of Architect Led Design Build (ALDB). This meant many site decisions had to be resolved within new constraints, that were only discovered when the construction was underway. Optimising each issue with subcontractors and staying within tendered budgets required re-thinking design priorities & negotiating rapid agreement with the client. Design intelligence continued to inform construction throughout - not just at the beginning.
